Kristján Atli was born in Reykjavík in 1980. He grew up in a small fjord on the northwest corner of Iceland before moving to Njarðvík near the international airport and then to Hafnarfjörður, a small town on the southern outskirts of Reykjavík, in 1989. He has mostly lived there since.
Kristján Atli studied international economics at a college level and then comparative literature and English literature at the University of Iceland, from where he graduated with a degree in 2007. He has written fiction since he became aware he could do it but he is also the founder and runner of Kop.is, one of Iceland’s premier independent sports websites.
Kristján Atli currently lives on a hilltop in Hafnarfjörður with his wife and two daughters. Nýja Breiðholt is his first novel and was released in september 2016 by Draumsýn. He sells fish at Hafnarfjörður’s wholesale market during the day.
